Kolkata, July 11: A shocking incident has unfolded in Nandigram, West Bengal, where the body of a seven-year-old girl was discovered, causing widespread panic in the area. Upon receiving the report, police swiftly arrived at the scene and arrested two main suspects, including one adult and one minor. The police have registered a case under relevant sections for rape, abduction, murder, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to Priyashree Pal, the acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Nandigram, the police station received information about the girl’s body around 1 AM on July 11. The police team promptly reached the location, took possession of the body, and initiated the legal procedures.
After completing the necessary formalities at the scene, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. Given the seriousness of the case, the post-mortem was conducted under the supervision of a panel of medical experts to accurately determine the cause of death.
Additionally, a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the site and collected essential scientific evidence. The police stated that the physical and technical evidence gathered during the investigation has been preserved and is undergoing detailed examination.
ACP Priyashree Pal confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed based on a written complaint from the victim’s family, incorporating relevant sections of Indian law, including those for rape, abduction, murder, and the POCSO Act.
Authorities reported that CCTV footage from around the crime scene, along with technical evidence and other available proof, led to the identification of the two main suspects. One is an adult, while the other is a minor, and both are currently being interrogated.
Police officials emphasized that every aspect of the case is under investigation. They are working to uncover the roles of the suspects, the motives behind the incident, and any other facts related to the crime. If further involvement of other individuals is discovered during the investigation, legal action will be taken against them as well.
