Congress Infighting Seen as Major Cause for Electoral Losses, Urges Teamwork in Punjab: Dr. Udit Raj

New Delhi, July 12: Senior Congress leader and former MP Dr. Udit Raj has expressed concern over the ongoing factionalism within the party. He stated that the Congress has failed to secure power in several states because leaders have focused more on internal conflicts rather than strengthening the organization.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Udit Raj remarked that the party narrowly missed victory in Uttarakhand. “The government was like a platter before us, but we lost due to infighting,” he said. He noted a similar situation occurred in Punjab during the last elections, where the government was within reach. However, some leaders, including the state president, initiated factionalism, which harmed the party. This internal strife not only affects the Congress but also has detrimental effects on the nation, leading to continuous electoral defeats and adversely impacting the organization.

He emphasized the urgent need for all leaders in Punjab to work collaboratively, as the region faces severe challenges and the public is suffering. “If we continue to engage in factionalism, no one will benefit. Only when we achieve something will we share the rewards and hold positions of power,” he added.

Earlier, Udit Raj posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Internal factionalism in Congress is not only a major reason for electoral defeats but also a key factor in the party’s weakening at the organizational level. It is baffling that internal conflicts yield no benefits. Factionalism led to our failure in forming a government in Uttarakhand. Leaders and workers in Punjab should learn from this. Punjab also suffered from severe factionalism during the last assembly elections. The party president seemed to have taken a contract to oppose every decision of our own government, resulting in our defeat.”

He further stated that in the struggle to uphold the Constitution and in light of Rahul Gandhi’s sacrifices and dedication, the party must avoid factionalism. Any internal issues or disagreements should be addressed at the appropriate party platform.
