Mumbai, March 31: In the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress are contesting separately. Recently, Congress announced candidates for 284 assembly seats, signaling its intent to directly compete for forming the next government in Bengal. However, senior Maharashtra Congress leader Hussain Dalwai believes that Mamata Banerjee will once again lead the government in Bengal.
In a conversation in Mumbai, Dalwai expressed his confidence, stating, “I believe Mamata Banerjee will return, as she is in direct competition with the central government. In areas where Congress is strong, our candidates will emerge victorious.”
He emphasized that whether Mamata Banerjee’s government returns or a coalition government is formed, the BJP will not establish its government in Bengal.
Dalwai also addressed concerns regarding threats to Mamata Banerjee’s life, asserting that there must be valid reasons behind such claims. He described the BJP as a threat to the nation, stating that attempts are made to eliminate opposition.
On the controversy surrounding IPL tickets, Dalwai remarked that while the government allocates tickets for matches, giving three tickets to any legislator is inappropriate. “Every legislator should receive one ticket, and if they need more, they should purchase them. They shouldn’t receive everything for free,” he said.
He added that in Maharashtra, tickets are distributed for matches, but he is unsure how many are given, insisting that three tickets per legislator is excessive.
Regarding Amit Shah’s comments on Naxalism in the Lok Sabha, Dalwai stated that Shah can say anything, often making false accusations. He highlighted that Congress has consistently fought against Naxalism, noting that their leaders have been killed in Chhattisgarh. “How can we support them? Rahul Gandhi never supports such actions,” he remarked.
Dalwai acknowledged that if the government is genuinely working to eradicate Naxalism, it is a positive step, emphasizing that societal change does not require violence.
On the issue of infiltration, he stated that infiltrators cross the border, and the BSF is present at the border. He questioned whose negligence allows infiltrators to enter India.
