New Delhi, May 5: Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, Prahlad Joshi, stated on Monday that the Congress party has lost its significance in the country, surviving only in Kerala. He also predicted a similar fate for Congress in the upcoming elections in Karnataka.
Addressing a press conference regarding the results of assembly elections in five states, Joshi claimed that the outcomes reflect a clear mandate against poor governance, excessive appeasement, corruption, and lawlessness. He emphasized strong support for the BJP-NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Joshi noted that the NDA achieved historic victories in Assam, West Bengal, and Puducherry, attributing this success to Modi’s effective governance over the past 12 years.
He asserted that Congress has nearly vanished as a national party, with its presence diminished in most states except Kerala. He pointed to Congress’s poor performance in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, stating that even some success in Assam does not alter its overall standing.
Joshi accused Congress of being rejected by the public due to its appeasement, corruption, and vote bank politics. Criticizing Congress’s political strategy, he mentioned discussions about alliances with actor Vijay’s party, Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam, in Tamil Nadu, indicating the party’s dwindling political space.
He further alleged that Congress’s coalition politics and attitudes in Kerala have weakened its position nationwide. Joshi remarked that the continuous criticism and personal attacks on Prime Minister Modi by Congress have backfired.
He stated that Congress’s use of derogatory language against the popular Prime Minister has been met with a strong response from the public.
Regarding the West Bengal election results, he claimed that voters previously feared casting their ballots due to law and order issues, but this time, strict measures encouraged participation. He thanked voters for standing against lawlessness by exercising their right to vote.
Commenting on the Karnataka by-election results, he highlighted issues of corruption, poor governance, and appeasement within the Congress-led state government, predicting that the public will vote them out in the forthcoming assembly elections.
