Hyderabad, August 25: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchandra Rao ended his hunger strike on Tuesday after his health deteriorated. He had been on a 48-hour fast since Monday, demanding the release of pending fee reimbursements from the state government.
During the hunger strike, concerns grew among party workers and leaders as Rao’s blood pressure dropped. Following advice from senior leaders, he decided to conclude the fast. Senior BJP leader and MP K. Lakshman provided him with lemon water to break the fast.
Earlier, several BJP leaders and legislators, including former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, MP Eatala Rajender, and Telangana Assembly BJP leader Maheshwar Reddy, visited the hunger strike site to express their support for Rao.
BJP MP Eatala Rajender criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy regarding the delayed fee reimbursements, urging the government to take students’ futures seriously.
On the second day of his fast, Rao stated on the social media platform X that he would continue to fight for the rights of Telangana’s students. He accused the Congress government of failing to release approximately ₹15,000 crore in pending reimbursements, which he claimed is affecting the futures of nearly 4 million students.
He emphasized that due to the delayed payments, students are being deprived of higher education and employment opportunities. The BJP leader alleged that the Congress government has failed to fulfill its major promises to students and youth, leading to a severe crisis in the state’s education system.
