Lucknow, May 20: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the Public Works Department’s action plan for 2026-27 via video conferencing on Wednesday. The meeting included all district magistrates, ministers, and public representatives. During the session, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that there is no compromise on standards, quality, and timeliness in development projects.
He emphasized that development proposals should be prepared according to local needs from each district and submitted within a week. Approval from the government is expected in the first week of June. District magistrates are to meet with public representatives to finalize development plans based on priority.
CM Yogi stated that the ground-breaking and foundation-laying ceremonies for development projects should be conducted by local representatives. He clarified that any departmental shortcomings or contractor errors should not fall on the representatives. Ensuring quality and timely completion of projects is the responsibility of departmental officials.
He noted that connectivity and robust infrastructure are vital for any state’s economic progress. Roads, bridges, and access routes are not just means of transportation; they also facilitate trade, employment, and social development. Officials were directed to avoid a ‘pick and choose’ approach while preparing proposals and to give equal importance to the needs of all areas.
The Chief Minister instructed all district magistrates and chief development officers to appoint a nodal officer for each project in their districts. This officer will regularly monitor progress and ensure quality. He also requested a timely progress report on projects approved last year to be sent to the government.
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for constructing helipads in light of emergency situations. He stated that helipads are extremely useful during natural disasters, health emergencies, or other crises. Therefore, helipads should be established near every block, tehsil, and district headquarters.
He directed that the Public Works Department should maintain these helipads and develop a fee structure for their use. The Chief Minister also mentioned the impact of global conditions on the availability of fuel and bitumen, instructing the Public Works Department to adopt technical innovations. He stressed the need for practical improvements in operations to adapt to changing circumstances.
He called for the construction of quality CC roads on rural roads up to two kilometers as needed. To reduce bitumen consumption, he recommended prioritizing Cement Treated Subbase (CTSB) over Granular Subbase (GSB) and Cement Treated Base (CTB) over Wet Mix Macadam (WMM) to make road construction more durable and cost-effective.
The Chief Minister praised the Urban Development Department’s ‘CM Grid’ scheme as a significant initiative to strengthen urban connectivity but noted the need for increased pace. He urged the department to prepare proposals based on local needs, ensuring better road and connectivity systems reach every neighborhood and colony. A detailed presentation was also given by the Public Works Department during the meeting.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that over 30,000 proposals have been received under 17 categories for the current financial year 2026-2027. He instructed that priorities be set for all proposals and that plans be implemented in a phased and timely manner to ensure the benefits of development reach the last person.
