Chinas Snow Dragon Icebreaker Returns After Successful Antarctic Mission

Beijing, April 9: China’s 42nd Antarctic expedition team, along with the Snow Dragon icebreaker, returned to the country on April 9, as confirmed by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The Snow Dragon is now docked at a domestic base for polar research. The expedition team has successfully completed all planned missions.

Reports indicate that this mission achieved new heights in terms of staff numbers, material quantities, and workload. The team made significant accomplishments during the expedition.

Notably, the Snow Dragon and its sister ship, Snow Dragon 2, departed from Shanghai on November 1, 2025. After a journey spanning 160 days and over 34,000 nautical miles, the Snow Dragon returned on April 9. Meanwhile, Snow Dragon 2 is currently engaged in a joint mission at Prydz Bay in Antarctica and is expected to return to Shanghai by the end of next month.
