Two Arrested for Jewelry Theft in Dwarka, Linked Through Facebook

New Delhi, April 15: The Anti-Burglary Cell in Delhi has apprehended two thieves involved in stealing gold rings from jewelry shops in the Dwarka district. The suspects deceived shopkeepers by swapping real jewelry with fake items. Both individuals are reportedly drug addicts and met each other through Facebook.

According to DCP Kushal Pal Singh, a complaint was filed by Ravinder Singh on November 15, stating that an unidentified person had stolen a gold ring while posing as a customer on the evening of November 14, 2025. A case was registered at the Dabri police station based on this complaint.

Under the leadership of Inspector Vivek Mandola, a team was formed to investigate the case. They reviewed CCTV footage from the shop, which showed one suspect distracting the shopkeeper while the other swapped the genuine ring for a fake one. It was discovered that another individual was waiting outside on a motorcycle, and both suspects fled the scene on it.

The team began tracking the suspects through the CCTV footage, but due to a lack of cameras in the area, they could not be traced immediately. However, they managed to obtain a clear image of one of the suspects. The team shared this image with informants and special teams across various districts to identify the suspects. Recently, they identified one suspect as Charanjit, a resident of Nangloi. They obtained his mobile number through his social media profile and conducted multiple raids in Nangloi, Subhash Nagar, and other parts of Delhi.

The team’s persistent efforts paid off when Head Constable Krishna received a tip-off that Charanjit would arrive in the Palam area around 6:30 PM with his accomplice on the stolen motorcycle. The team quickly set up a trap and intercepted Charanjit and his partner on a motorcycle without a license plate around 6:10 PM. Although the suspects attempted to flee, alert team members thwarted their escape.

Upon questioning, the motorcycle rider was identified as Jai Prakash, alias Punni, while the passenger was confirmed to be Charanjit. A search of Charanjit revealed two fake gold rings and one bracelet in his possession. The motorcycle was also found to be stolen from the Bindapur police station.

Intensive questioning of both suspects revealed that Charanjit was born in Faridabad but raised in Amritsar, Punjab. His father was a goldsmith, and after his death, the family lost their income. Charanjit developed a heroin addiction. Jai Prakash is unemployed and also addicted to heroin. The two became friends through Facebook, and Charanjit, having some experience as a goldsmith, began targeting jewelry shops. They have committed several thefts in areas like Subhash Nagar, Chander Vihar, and Patel Nagar in Delhi and Punjab. Investigations into the cases are ongoing.
