New Delhi, April 15: Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker arrived in India on Wednesday for his first official visit. During this trip, he aims to enhance mutual relations in key areas such as trade, investment, and new technologies.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Chancellor Stocker warmly on social media platform X. He noted that the young Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, greeted him at the airport. Jaiswal emphasized the friendly ties between India and Austria, stating that Stocker’s visit would further promote a “better India-Austria partnership.”
This marks Stocker’s first four-day visit to India since he took office in 2025, making it his inaugural official trip to Asia. Throughout his visit, he will engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, green technology, and other essential sectors.
Accompanying Stocker is a high-level delegation that includes senior ministers, government officials, and business leaders, highlighting the strong economic focus of this visit. Both parties are expected to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration in advanced manufacturing, digital innovation, and renewable energy.
This visit comes amid growing economic ties between the two nations. Discussions are anticipated to cover regional and global issues of mutual benefit, as well as cooperation in multilateral forums.
India and Austria have long enjoyed friendly relations based on shared democratic values. This visit aims to build on the momentum created by Prime Minister Modi’s trip to Austria in 2024, with hopes of further strengthening the India-Austria partnership and opening new avenues for strategic and economic cooperation.
Earlier, on December 12, 2025, the eighth round of India-Austria Foreign Office consultations took place in Vienna, where Secretary (West) Sibi George and Austria’s Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, Nicolas Marschik, reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations. According to the Foreign Ministry, both sides also discussed ways to strengthen India-EU relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
