China’s Box Office Revenue Crosses 51.8 Billion Yuan in 2025

Beijing, 1 January. According to data released on Thursday by the China National Film Administration, the total box office revenue of films in China reached 51.83 billion yuan in 2025, with 123.8 million viewers in urban cinemas.

Domestic films accounted for 41.29 billion yuan, making up 79.67% of the total box office revenue.

In 2025, a total of 51 films earned over 100 million yuan each, including 33 domestic films. The country produced 764 films during the year, of which 511 were feature films. The number of screens in urban cinemas increased by 2,219, bringing the total to 93,187.

The top five box office hits included the films “Nezha 2”, “Zootopia 2”, “Detective Chinatown 1900”, “Nanjing Photo Studio”, and “731”.

Overall, the Chinese film market in 2025 presented a rich and diverse range of films. Filmmakers created many movies closely connected to real-life experiences, reflecting the spirit of the times, expressing the voice of the people, and continuously meeting new spiritual and cultural expectations.
