Pauri Garhwal, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Dehradun has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Pauri Garhwal. In response, District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria has declared a one-day holiday for all government, semi-government, and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centers, for students from grades 1 to 12.
The closure will take effect on Saturday, September 5, prioritizing the safety of students amid the forecast of severe weather conditions. Bhadauria noted that the decision was made due to potential heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and the risk of swift water flow in rivers and streams.
She has instructed the Chief Education Officer, District Education Officer, and all relevant authorities to ensure strict compliance with this directive. The District Magistrate has also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the adverse weather, to stay away from rivers and streams, and to follow the guidelines issued by the weather department and district administration.
In a related note, the IMD’s center in Bhopal has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall along with strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts of Madhya Pradesh. These districts include Shivpuri, Gwalior, and Morena, among others. Light thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are also predicted in areas such as Neemuch and Ratlam, with rainfall intensity expected to range between 5-15 mm per hour.
The IMD cautioned that heavy rains could lead to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, damage to weak structures, and temporary impacts on electricity and communication networks. Similar disruptions may occur in areas experiencing heavy rainfall, albeit at a reduced scale.
