Central Minister Criticizes Mamata Government After Hostage Incident in Malda

New Delhi, April 3: Central Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has sharply criticized the Mamata Banerjee government following the hostage situation involving seven judicial officials in Malda district’s Kaliachak. He stated that this incident signifies a complete breakdown of the system under Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Pradhan took to social media platform X to express that the Malda incident is not an isolated case; rather, it reflects the systemic failures of the TMC government. The seven judicial officials were held hostage for over nine hours without food or water, highlighting the state’s governance failures. Additionally, he pointed out the violence in Malda-Murshidabad, the exodus of Hindu families, and the brutal murders of Hargobindo and Chandan Das.

He emphasized that these events occurred under the administration operating within the state’s control. Accountability is essential, he added. While the Supreme Court initially downplayed the political implications of the situation, it soon became a political issue. This contradiction is evident, and the people of West Bengal are witnessing the end of the politics of fear propagated by TMC goons.

The Supreme Court has taken up the matter and directed the Election Commission to conduct an investigation through an independent agency. The Election Commission has reached out to the NIA for this investigation, and it is expected that an NIA team will arrive in Malda on Friday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when seven judicial officials, including three women, were taken hostage in a block office. Reports suggest that those responsible for the hostage-taking were individuals whose names were removed from the electoral list under ‘logical discrepancy.’
