Mumbai, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : In Mumbai, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Nirupam addressed the ongoing investigation into the death of Disha Salian, following the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) registration of a First Information Report (FIR). He linked this development to a directive from the Mumbai High Court, emphasizing that the investigation will clarify the roles of various individuals involved.
Nirupam noted that questions about the case have persisted for a long time. He accused the Mumbai police of attempting to suppress the investigation during Uddhav Thackeray‘s tenure as chief minister. The investigation was prompted by a plea from Salian’s father to the High Court, which ultimately assigned the case to the CBI. He asserted that the forthcoming findings will reveal any inadequacies or pressures in the earlier investigations.
He specifically mentioned Aditya Thackeray, suggesting that the inquiry will determine whether he had any involvement in the case. Nirupam also made serious remarks about other individuals linked to the incident, referencing their alleged criminal backgrounds. He expressed hope that the CBI would conduct a fair and thorough investigation, recognizing the roles of Disha Salian’s father, the High Court, and the agency itself in this matter.
On the topic of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Nirupam supported Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statements, urging the NDA’s allied parties to back the initiative. He stated that the UCC aims to establish equal legal frameworks for civil matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, and is not intended to discriminate against any religion or individual.
He highlighted that the UCC should be viewed as a comprehensive legal system to eliminate discrimination against women stemming from diverse religious and social traditions. Nirupam also mentioned potential objections from the Janata Dal (United) regarding the UCC and urged them to consider the matter beyond a religious lens.
Furthermore, Nirupam welcomed the government’s decision regarding UPI-RuPay payment charges, which exempts small transactions from extra fees. He praised the government’s focus on protecting the interests of ordinary citizens engaging in digital payments. Under the current legal framework, transactions up to ₹2,000 will not incur additional taxes or charges, a move that could benefit everyday users.
He noted that UPI has become a crucial medium for daily financial transactions in India, and removing extra fees for small payments could greatly assist the public. Nirupam stressed the importance of maintaining clarity in payment system regulations to avoid confusion among consumers and businesses alike.
