Chandigarh, May 19: The police reported that the body of 29-year-old Punjabi singer Yashinder Kaur, also known as Inder Kaur, was discovered in the Neelan canal near Ludhiana, six days after she went missing.
Her family has accused her former boyfriend, who resides in Canada, of kidnapping and murder. They claim she was abducted at gunpoint.
This incident has sparked outrage on social media, with fans mourning her loss and demanding justice for the singer.
Jotinder Singh, the victim’s brother, informed the police that Kaur left home around 8:30 PM on May 13 to buy groceries in her Ford Figo but never returned.
Following her disappearance, the family accused Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of a village in Moga district, of pressuring her into marriage.
According to the police, the two met on Instagram three years ago and became friends. When Kaur learned that Sukhwinder was already married and had a child, she ended their relationship. This reportedly fueled Sukhwinder’s resentment towards her.
The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused in Canada, his father Preetam Singh, and his friend Karamjeet Singh. All three are residents of Bhalloor village in Moga district and have been arrested.
Authorities revealed that the accused entered India via Nepal on April 29 and returned on May 13, the same day Kaur was abducted.
Investigation officer Dalveer Singh stated that Kaur’s family had informed the police about her previous relationship with Sukhwinder, which later ended. When Kaur refused to marry him, the accused allegedly kidnapped her at gunpoint.
The police confirmed that Kaur’s body was recovered from the Neelan canal today. Near the location of the body, they found her car, which had bloodstains. Preliminary investigations suggest that she was murdered inside the car before her body was disposed of in the canal.
