BJP Protests Against Corruption and Extortion in Kolkata, Demands ED and CBI Investigation

Kolkata, June 4: A protest led by BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal took place in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, on Thursday. Participants accused local authorities of corruption, extortion, syndicate rule, and illegal land grabbing in the Entally area. They demanded an investigation by central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The protest began at Ramleela Maidan in Maulali and marched towards the Janbazaar area of Kolkata. The destination was in front of the residences of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Swarn Kamal Saha and current TMC MLA Sandipan Saha.

During the demonstration, Priyanka Tibrewal launched a fierce attack on TMC leaders. She stated, “Sandipan Saha and Swarn Kamal Saha have looted public funds. For the last two days, Sandipan Saha has claimed he has no connection to TMC’s corruption, but they are no saints; they are all thieves. Who will answer for the theft?”

She emphasized that people gathered to protest, and upon learning of the event, she decided to join.

One participant voiced his complaint, alleging attempts to seize his land. He said, “Our land is in Ward No. 18 of Durgapur district, where we farm. Sandipan Saha and his son promised to pay us 50,000 rupees for a square foot of land, but we have yet to receive any money.”

Protesters claimed that corruption and illegal activities have persisted in the area for a long time, leaving locals without justice. They called for a fair investigation into the matter and strict action against the guilty.

Currently, there has been no official response from TMC leaders regarding these allegations. In light of the protest, strict security measures were implemented in the area.

Meanwhile, TMC is facing turmoil, with the party on the brink of a split. Party General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is under investigation in several cases, with both the CID and ED issuing notices for questioning.
