Patna, July 1: Bihar’s Health Minister Nishant Kumar announced that the state government is prioritizing the provision of better and timely healthcare services. The aim is to ensure that patients receive treatment at district hospitals, with referrals to Patna only when absolutely necessary. In a media briefing, the minister revealed plans to install CCTV cameras in all government health institutions. A software will also be developed to enable monitoring from the health department’s control room.
He stated that he will personally inspect hospitals and send his team for regular checks, but a system for ongoing monitoring through technology will be established. Any irregularities found will lead to action against the responsible individuals. Nishant Kumar mentioned that since taking office, the most frequent complaints he has received are regarding the unavailability of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff.
The government is committed to ensuring that doctors report for duty on time and that patients receive quality care. Kumar outlined that the state aims to provide 504 types of medicines in government hospitals. Currently, around 350 medicines are available, with efforts underway to supply the remaining ones. He instructed officials to conduct regular checks on the quality of medicines by taking random samples from hospitals and markets.
The Health Minister also emphasized that if any hospital faces a shortage of medicines or if machines like MRI, CT scans, or ultrasounds are malfunctioning or lack technicians, the health department should be notified immediately. He assured that the government will ensure the availability of necessary technicians to prevent unnecessary inconvenience for patients.
Additionally, the state government is working on a plan to deploy around 100 ambulances on state and national highways to save lives in road accidents, ensuring quick medical assistance during the ‘golden hour.’ Nishant Kumar also mentioned ongoing plans to develop 11 Level-3 trauma centers and 5 Level-2 trauma centers in the state. The government is continuously striving to strengthen healthcare services.
