Bihar Cabinet Approves Key Proposals, Including Sugar Mill Resumption

Patna, June 8: The Bihar Cabinet convened on Monday, approving a significant proposal for the resumption of operations at the Sasamusa sugar mill. This decision includes the payment of ₹42.99 lakh to cane farmers for outstanding dues from previous crushing seasons. The government believes that this move will strengthen the economic condition of local farmers and create job opportunities.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, the Cabinet approved a total of 25 proposals during the meeting.

An official stated that the Cabinet also sanctioned the “Developed India – Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission (Rural)” scheme, set to be implemented from July 1, 2026.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a proposal that denies any exemptions or benefits for the registration or scrapping of government vehicles older than 15 years. However, the benefits for the purchase of new vehicles after scrapping non-government vehicles will continue as before.

A crucial proposal under the centrally sponsored “Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0” received in-principle approval. This will lead to the signing of an MoU between the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, and the Public Health Engineering Department of Bihar. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the implementation of the “Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme” in the state for the Rabi 2026-27 season. This scheme will replace the Bihar State Crop Assistance Scheme, which has been operational since the Kharif 2018 season. Under the crop insurance scheme, insured farmers will receive compensation equivalent to their agricultural costs for crop losses. Notably, there will be no limit on the insured land, allowing large landholding farmers to benefit from compensation for crop losses equivalent to their insured land.

The state government also granted administrative approval for a ₹305 crore grant to IIT Patna for establishing a research park. The meeting also approved sewerage and water supply projects in Bihar Sharif, Hajipur, Begusarai, and Saharsa.
