BCCI to Enforce Strict Measures Against IPL Protocol Violators: Devjeet Saikia

Guwahati, May 7: The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devjeet Saikia, has expressed strong discontent regarding individuals roaming around IPL teams and players without permission. He emphasized that the board is taking this matter seriously and will take strict action against those who violate the rules.

In an interview, Saikia revealed that several incidents this season have breached BCCI’s anti-corruption regulations. Consequently, the BCCI and IPL Governing Council are set to issue a new advisory containing strict guidelines for all teams, players, and officials.

He noted that some individuals have been traveling with players and team officials without authorization. In numerous instances, these individuals have been spotted on team buses, at team hotels, and even in players’ rooms. According to the BCCI, this behavior contravenes security and anti-corruption protocols. Saikia also mentioned that some team owners and franchise officials are accessing areas where they are not permitted. He stressed that there are boundaries for dugouts and team areas, which everyone must respect.

Last month, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced scrutiny on two separate occasions. Initially, team manager Romi Bhinder was fined ₹100,000 for using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Guwahati, along with a stern warning. Subsequently, RR captain Riyan Parag was reportedly seen vaping inside the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh.

Saikia stated that the BCCI is taking these incidents very seriously. He made it clear that any form of negligence will no longer be tolerated. He added, “We have taken these matters very seriously. You have already seen the incident involving the Rajasthan Royals’ manager using a mobile phone and a player being caught vaping. These incidents are already in the public domain. We are not sitting idle.” He warned that after the new advisory is issued, any violations will lead to strict disciplinary action, regardless of whether the offender is a player, team official, or owner.
