Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Friday accused the Telangana Congress government of deliberately delaying the investigation into the phone tapping case, likening it to the dragging plot of a television serial.
Speaking to the media in Karimnagar, Sanjay Kumar alleged that the state government lacks the courage to take action against the family of BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). He claimed that the inquiry is being stalled to protect the interests of the ruling family.
Earlier, KTR, son of KCR and executive president of the BRS, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone tapping allegations. The BJP leader accused the Congress government of merely putting up a show under the guise of SIT investigation.
Accusations Against KTR and Alleged Impact
Bandi Sanjay reiterated that KTR had allegedly conducted phone tapping by establishing Sircilla as the headquarters, causing severe distress to many families. He expressed skepticism over any arrests being made, citing the government’s reluctance to act against KCR’s family members.
He said, “There are some good officers in the SIT, but the government has not given them full freedom. Has any political leader been arrested so far in this case?”
Claims of Misuse of Intelligence Agencies
The Union Minister further stated that if the BJP were in power in Telangana, strict action would have been taken against KCR’s family. He insisted that those involved in the phone tapping, including politicians and officials, should be punished.
Responding to KTR’s statements, Sanjay Kumar said the phone tapping in Telangana cannot be compared to national security-related interceptions. He alleged that under the pretext of monitoring Maoist activities, phones of actresses, businessmen, politicians, and judges were tapped.
Bandi Sanjay, who had appeared as a witness before the SIT last August, also accused KCR of having the phones of his daughter Kavitha, son-in-law Anil Kumar, and nephew and then minister T. Harish Rao tapped. He claimed that during the BRS regime, phone tapping was used to loot thousands of crores.
He further alleged that KCR and KTR misused the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), which was originally created to monitor Maoist activities, for their personal interests.
