Ayodhya GST Deputy Commissioner Resigns Supporting CM Yogi Amid Controversy

Ayodhya, January 27: Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of the GST Department in Ayodhya division, resigned from his post on Tuesday. He stated that his decision was in support of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath amid the ongoing controversy involving Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.

During a phone conversation with his wife, Prashant Kumar Singh became emotional and informed her that he had tendered his resignation to stand by CM Yogi Adityanath.

This resignation follows allegations made by Swami Avimukteshwaranand, who claimed that during Mauni Amavasya, he and his disciples were prevented from taking a holy dip at Sangam Ghat. The Swami further alleged that his disciples faced physical assault by the administration at the event.

However, the administration firmly denied these allegations, explaining that Swami Avimukteshwaranand was riding a chariot towards Sangam Ghat, which was not permitted due to risks of stampede in the large crowd and religious gathering.

Officials stated that some of the Swami’s disciples tried to break barricades and caused damage, prompting police intervention. The police instructed them to return or proceed on foot instead of using the chariot.

The controversy escalated further as questions were raised about Swami Avimukteshwaranand’s claim to the ‘Shankaracharya’ title, which remains pending in the Supreme Court.

Amid this situation, Prashant Kumar Singh sent his two-page resignation directly to the Governor, expressing his support for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his resignation letter, Singh expressed deep hurt over the disrespectful remarks made against the Chief Minister by the Shankaracharya.

Speaking to news agencies, Singh said, “I am the Deputy Commissioner in Ayodhya and work in the Special Investigation Branch. I support the Government, the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister, and the Constitution of this country.”

He added that he was disturbed by the “baseless statements” of Swami Avimukteshwaranand.

Singh further stated, “These are divisive statements that include comments on the character of the Chief Minister of such a large state. This Government works for our welfare, and we owe it. It is not my job to work like a robot or machine and just draw a salary. If anyone makes mistakes against my state, my Chief Minister, or my Prime Minister, I will not remain silent.”

He described himself as a sensitive person who would definitely oppose such issues within constitutional limits. Singh confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to the Governor through proper government procedures.

This is the second resignation by a senior officer in the last two days. Earlier on Monday, Alankar Agnihotri, City Magistrate of Bareilly, resigned citing changes in UGC guidelines and the alleged disrespect towards the Shankaracharya.
