Guwahati, August 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that efforts to restore electricity in the flood-affected Sivasagar district are progressing rapidly. In the past 24 hours, a significant number of consumers have had their power supply restored.
Sharing updates on social media, the Chief Minister noted that teams from the electricity department have successfully reactivated several transformers.
Sarma stated, “We have made good progress in restoring power. In the last 24 hours, our teams have safely reactivated several more transformers, reducing the number of affected consumers in Sivasagar by nearly 58 percent. We are moving swiftly towards normalizing the power situation.”
According to a report released by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited on Sunday at 8 AM, only 2,274 consumers in Sivasagar district remain affected by the flood’s impact on electricity supply. This number has significantly decreased due to restoration efforts.
The report revealed that all 33 kV transmission lines and 33/11 kV substations in the district are fully operational with no faults. There are no disruptions in the 11 kV feeder network, except for one feeder that remains offline due to alternative source arrangements.
However, 61 distribution transformers still need to be reactivated, primarily located in flood-affected areas, which is causing some consumers to face power issues.
Among the most affected areas, 920 consumers in Sesa-D2 are without electricity, followed by 799 in Gaurisagar and 375 in Sivasagar ESD-I.
In Najira, 180 consumers remain affected, while power supply has been fully restored in the Amguri and Demo sub-divisions.
This restoration campaign is being conducted following extensive disruptions caused by recent floods.
The floods had submerged many parts of Upper Assam, damaging power infrastructure and affecting thousands of homes. The state government has intensified restoration efforts in flood-affected districts and deployed field teams to repair damaged infrastructure and restore power supply.
Officials stated that work is ongoing to fully normalize electricity services in the remaining affected areas as soon as possible.
