Dibrugarh, August 3: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a significant relief initiative on Monday at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Dibrugarh. Approximately 75,000 families from the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat will receive direct financial assistance totaling ₹112 crore through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
Each beneficiary family will receive ₹15,000 as interim financial aid. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshav Mahant also participated in the program, which aims to provide immediate economic support to families impacted by the recent floods.
The Chief Minister’s Office shared the news on social media platform ‘X,’ stating, “The first installment of interim flood assistance for families in affected districts has been officially released.”
On August 1, Chief Minister Sarma mentioned that flood relief efforts in the state have been expedited. The number of relief distribution centers has increased to 1,811, as the government continues its efforts to assist, rehabilitate, and restore normalcy in flood-hit areas.
Sharing updates on the flood situation on social media, the Chief Minister noted that relief operations are being expanded across the state to reach affected families.
According to the official flood bulletin released for the period from April 29 to July 31, 25 districts, 77 revenue circles, and 2,251 villages in Assam have been impacted by the floods. Over 1.14 million people have been affected, with 71,889 displaced individuals currently residing in 218 relief camps. The state government has established 1,811 relief distribution centers to ensure the supply of food, drinking water, and other essential items to flood-affected residents.
