Assams Dr. Habbe Teron Nominated as Deputy Speaker by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, June 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that BJP legislator Dr. Habbe Teron will be the ruling coalition’s candidate for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Assam Assembly.

On the social media platform ‘X’, CM Sarma stated that Dr. Teron, who represents the Amri (ST) constituency, has been nominated for this constitutional role. He expressed confidence that Teron would amplify the voices of tribal communities in the legislative process.

CM Sarma highlighted that Dr. Teron is a medical professional and the first elected representative from the newly formed Amri constituency. He emphasized that Teron represents the aspirations of Assam’s tribal communities and will enhance representation from the hilly districts in the state assembly.

The Chief Minister remarked that Dr. Teron, as a medical professional and the first elected representative from Amri, embodies the hopes of tribal communities and will further strengthen the voices of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao in the legislative process. He also extended best wishes to Teron for the upcoming elections for the Deputy Speaker position.

In a media interaction, Dr. Habbe Teron expressed heartfelt gratitude to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for his nomination for the Deputy Speaker role. He stated, “I sincerely thank Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for nominating me on behalf of the NDA for the Deputy Speaker position. I am committed to fulfilling my responsibilities with dedication and excellence. I take pride in myself and my people. I am extremely happy and grateful for this important responsibility. Dr. Teron’s candidacy is significant as he comes from a tribal-dominated hilly area and represents the newly formed Amri (ST) constituency. His election to this position is seen as a step towards ensuring greater participation of indigenous and tribal communities in the assembly’s functioning.

With a comfortable majority in the 126-member Assam Assembly, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to see Dr. Teron’s election as merely a formality.
