Assam Emerges as a Premier Concert Destination in India, Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, June 18: Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on Thursday that the state’s live entertainment sector has seen remarkable growth, positioning Assam as one of India’s leading concert venues.

Highlighting the progress of the state’s concert and live event industry, the Chief Minister noted that just a few years ago, Assam was not featured on the calendar of major concert events. However, it has now become a preferred location for significant music and entertainment programs.

In a post on the social media platform X, he stated, “A few years ago, Assam was not even part of most concert calendars, but look at its progress now.”

According to data shared by Himanta Biswa Sarma, 55 ticketed live shows were held in Assam in 2025, showcasing substantial growth in the state’s entertainment and event sector.

He reported a 222% increase in the number of shows during this period, alongside a 188% rise in audience attendance. The Chief Minister described this achievement as a symbol of Assam’s growing popularity among organizers, artists, and audiences alike. He shared an infographic stating, “Assam is truly performing remarkably.”

Data released by the Chief Minister’s office indicates that this surge in live events is attributed to improved infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and a growing interest from national and international artists to perform in the state.

Industry experts believe that the expansion of the concert industry will benefit tourism, the hotel business, transportation, and local enterprises. The influx of young audiences from various parts of the country, particularly for major music events, has increased significantly.

In recent years, Assam has hosted numerous large cultural and entertainment events. This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to establish Assam as a hub for tourism, culture, and investment in the northeastern region.

The latest figures shared by the Chief Minister indicate that Assam’s image in the national entertainment sector is rapidly transforming, as the state emerges as a key center for live music and cultural events.
