Assam to Export 48 Million Semiconductor Chips Daily Starting November: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi, June 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the state has been experiencing a steady economic growth of 12-13% over the past seven to eight years, significantly higher than the national average. This positions Assam to emerge as a major hub for semiconductor manufacturing.

Speaking at a TV summit in the national capital, Sarma attributed the rapid economic expansion to continuous investments, infrastructure development, and industrial growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

He highlighted the progress of the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Testing Unit being developed in Morigaon district’s Jagiroad, stating that exports from this plant are expected to commence by the end of this year.

Sarma revealed, “Starting in November, Tata Semiconductor will begin exporting chips from Assam. We will export approximately 48 million chips daily from Guwahati to markets worldwide.”

The Chief Minister noted that international buyers have already shown significant interest in the products being developed at this facility.

Additionally, Sarma mentioned that the state government has finalized agreements for two more large semiconductor projects in Assam, which are expected to strengthen the state’s position within India’s electronics and semiconductor ecosystem.

He emphasized, “We are rapidly advancing in green energy and power generation. In the next three to four years, Assam will become a surplus state in terms of electricity.”

Sarma also announced that Guwahati will host two high-level meetings in July, symbolizing Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to the development of the Northeast region.

He stated, “These meetings could have taken place anywhere in the country, but they are happening in Guwahati. This shows that the Prime Minister wants to place the Northeast at the center of India’s development narrative.”
