Patna, August 26: Protests erupted outside Aryabhatta Knowledge University in Bihar on Tuesday over alleged discrepancies in exam results, leading to clashes between students and police.
The incident occurred near the university, which is also home to the Bihar University of Health Sciences, located in the Jakkapur police jurisdiction. A large group of students gathered to voice their concerns regarding irregularities in the exam results.
According to police reports, tensions escalated during the protest, resulting in confrontations between students and law enforcement officers present at the scene.
It is alleged that some students seized batons from police and engaged in physical altercations. As the situation deteriorated, police retreated towards the university campus.
Two police officers, including a female officer, sustained injuries during the scuffle. One officer, identified as Jitendra Kumar, suffered injuries to his head and leg and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Videos circulating on social media show a police officer lying on the ground near the university’s main gate while students are seen attacking him. Some students can be heard urging their peers to stop the violence. The officer eventually managed to leave the area safely.
Reports indicate that some students attempted to enter the university campus, resulting in damage to property and vehicles.
Witnesses reported that the windows of passing vehicles were shattered, and there were claims of inappropriate behavior towards university staff.
Protesting students assert that police resorted to baton charges while they were raising their grievances about the exam results.
However, police may present a different perspective, and an investigation into the entire incident is underway.
Following the clashes, additional police forces were deployed to the area to restore order. Currently, a significant police presence remains outside the university, with heightened security measures in place.
