Stone Pelting Incident on Vande Bharat Train in Gujarat, Governor Anandiben Patel Safe

Surat, August 26: A stone-pelting incident occurred on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express in Surat, Gujarat, on the evening of August 25. Uttar Pradesh Governor and former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel, was traveling on the train at the time. Fortunately, no passengers were injured, and Anandiben Patel is reported to be safe.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place between Utran and Kosad stations around 6:30 to 6:45 PM on train number 22961. The windows of the C-6 and C-10 coaches were damaged due to the stones thrown.

Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams arrived at the scene promptly and detained a 30-year-old man found near the railway tracks. Initial inquiries revealed that the detained individual was heavily intoxicated. Police and RPF officials are questioning him to ascertain his identity, role in the incident, and the reasons behind the stone-pelting.

It remains unclear whether this individual acted alone or if others were involved. The investigation is ongoing. Reports indicate that Anandiben Patel was traveling in the executive coach and was unharmed during the incident.

This event occurred while the Vande Bharat Express was en route from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Anandiben Patel has served as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh since 2019 and is among the longest-serving governors in the state.

She has been on a 10-day vacation in Gujarat from August 17 to 26, during which she visited various regions, including Silvassa and Daman. On August 23, she participated in the Monsoon Festival 2026 at Devka Beach in Daman, where she emphasized raising awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse among children and youth.

Railway and police officials have stated that all aspects of the case are under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those involved.
