New Delhi, June 22: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Monday to discuss issues related to governance, development, and public welfare in the capital.
This meeting is considered significant as it coincided with the finalization of the ‘Delhi Slum and Jhuggi-Jhopri Cluster Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy-2026,’ chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During a review meeting, it was decided that millions of families living in Delhi’s slums and JJ clusters would be provided with dignified housing. Delhi’s Home and Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood described this as a historic decision.
He stated that this initiative is being taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advance Delhi as the capital of a developed India.
According to the minister, the government’s goal is to ensure that by January 1, 2027, people living in slums will be provided homes at their current locations.
The meeting between the LG and the Chief Minister also occurred as the Chief Minister recently recommended the transfer of 74 government doctors, including 39 stationed at Tihar and Mandoli jails for over five years.
It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has proposed the transfer of these 74 government doctors, which includes those who have served in Tihar and Mandoli jails for more than five years.
The recommendation suggests transferring 39 doctors who have been working in Tihar and Mandoli for five years or more. An official statement indicated that this list includes both specialist doctors and General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs).
The statement mentioned that many of these doctors have been stationed at the same location since 2014, with tenures exceeding 11 years. The proposal also includes deploying approximately 35 other doctors in their place. In total, around 74 transfers have been proposed.
