New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant launched a fierce critique of the central government and police following the detention of leaders during a protest organized by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) at Jantar Mantar. Speaking to reporters, Sawant emphasized that peaceful protest is a constitutional right. He condemned the police’s actions as akin to those used against terrorists, declaring it an unannounced emergency.
“What law permits this?” he questioned, referring to the detentions of individuals taken off airplanes. “This country allows everyone the right to protest peacefully under the Constitution. If it remains peaceful, what is the problem?”
Sawant recalled a recent incident where police barricaded roads and closed metro stations as Rahul Gandhi and other MPs approached the Election Commission‘s office. “This is nothing but an unannounced emergency. Do as you please,” he remarked.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson criticized the police for their brutality, urging them to remember that the ultimate authority lies with the Supreme Court. “The strength of this country is its people, and the Constitution is in their hearts. If anyone acts with brutality, they will face consequences,” he warned.
He also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of corruption, questioning the legality of his actions. “What law is this? The Supreme Court recently reprimanded him for not seeking permission regarding the SIR. What evidence of corruption do you need?” Sawant stated, expressing concern over the current state of democracy in the nation.
He remarked, “This is not the BJP of Atal Bihari Vajpayee or Lal Krishna Advani; this is a different BJP altogether.” He suggested that the party is more focused on upcoming elections in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh than on upholding the law.
