Punjab Congress President Pargat Singh Aims to Unite Party Leaders Amid Political Uncertainty

Chandigarh, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Pargat Singh officially took charge as the new president of the Punjab Congress at the party office in Chandigarh. During his inaugural address, he emphasized the need for direction in Punjab’s politics and pledged to unite all Congress leaders under one platform.

On the occasion of Navratri, Singh extended his heartfelt greetings, calling it a propitious time. He stated that his focus would be on fostering constructive politics in Punjab, which he believes has been lacking direction.

Addressing recent protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Singh remarked, “This is not democracy; we are witnessing a dictatorship in the country.” His comments followed a statement made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on October 4, which suggested that the Congress party has more candidates for the chief minister’s position than active workers.

In response, Singh urged Mann to engage in a more reasoned dialogue, assuring him that the Congress party would present a strong team. “We know what needs to be done for Punjab, and we will work to improve the state’s situation,” he asserted.

Singh acknowledged his acquaintance with Mann, expressing mutual respect as artists and competitors. However, he cautioned that the public would hold Mann accountable for the actions taken in the last four and a half years.

When asked about the chief ministerial candidate for Punjab Congress, Singh clarified that the decision would rest with the elected representatives and would come after discussions with the party high command.
