Maharashtra Election Commission Resolves Age Discrepancies for 270,000 Voters

The Maharashtra Election Commission has clarified that age-related discrepancies for 270,000 voters were resolved before the deadline.

Mumbai, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Maharashtra Election Commission has addressed concerns regarding the inclusion of 270,000 voters aged over 100 in the electoral rolls during a special intensive revision (SIR). In response to inquiries, the Commission stated that it resolved age-related issues within the stipulated timeframe following a request from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra.

The Commission emphasized that discrepancies were rectified before the deadline for filing claims and objections, thus eliminating the need for voters to submit Form-8 for age corrections.

Questions arose regarding the presence of these centenarian voters in the electoral list, with claims suggesting it took the Commission a month to address these anomalies. However, the Commission clarified that its team acted promptly in resolving these matters at the request of the CEO.

As part of the SIR process, the verification of voters included removing names of deceased individuals, duplicates, and those who had relocated. New eligible voters were also added to the list. Meanwhile, opposition parties have alleged that names are being improperly removed, while the Election Commission maintains that the process is fair and regular. Protests related to this issue are ongoing in the national capital, Delhi.
