Kejriwal Vows to Continue Fight Until Chief Election Commissioner Resigns

Arvind Kejriwal declares ongoing protests until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns, following his release from police custody.

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party and former Chief Minister of Delhi, has asserted that the party’s protests will persist until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns. His comments came shortly after being released from police custody. Kejriwal, along with various party leaders, was detained while protesting in response to a call from the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) in Delhi.

In a video message from the police station, Kejriwal revealed that he and others had been held at the Jafarpur police station, where a large crowd gathered outside. He remarked that the location had transformed into a site of protest akin to Jantar Mantar.

Kejriwal criticized the government, pointing out the lack of police presence, stating, “There are not even 10 to 15 officers here, yet so many people are outside. The government may soon find itself lacking space to detain us.”

In another video, Kejriwal was seen exiting the police station, greeting his supporters as he got into a car. He reiterated his stance, declaring, “Our fight will continue. Gyanesh Kumar must resign.”

Meanwhile, around 600 protesters were detained in Mumbai, although all were later released. In support of the CJP protests in Delhi, approximately 400 individuals, including members of Tushar Gandhi’s organization and CPI(M) supporters, were taken into custody at August Kranti Maidan. Action was also taken against activists from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.

Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, was held by Mumbai police for about seven hours. He was detained while heading towards August Kranti Maidan and later questioned the police about being taken to Borivali police station instead of a hospital for a medical check-up, as initially claimed. An officer explained that the decision was made due to the growing crowd at DN Nagar.

The events highlight ongoing tensions surrounding political protests in India, with Kejriwal and his party remaining vocal against governmental actions.
