New Delhi, March 6: The Delhi Assembly Secretariat has issued summons for former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to appear before the Privileges Committee today. This comes after his request for live streaming of the committee’s proceedings was rejected. An official letter from the Assembly stated that the committee’s proceedings are confidential and, according to the rules, live broadcasting is not permitted.
In a letter dated March 5, referencing Kejriwal’s correspondence from March 3, the Deputy Secretary (Legislative) Sadanand Sah noted that the committee’s chairperson informed him that live streaming is not allowed due to the confidential nature of the proceedings. Furthermore, it was mentioned that no Privileges Committee meetings have ever been broadcasted in Parliament or other states.
The chairperson expressed surprise that Kejriwal, who has served as a member of the Assembly for over ten years, is unaware of this protocol, especially since several meetings of the Privileges Committee have taken place without any live broadcasts.
Kejriwal has been summoned in connection with the alleged hanging case from 2022 and is expected to appear before the committee today. Previously, on March 3, he stated that the Delhi Assembly had summoned him to answer questions regarding the hanging issue. He confirmed that he would attend as per the committee’s summons on March 6.
