New Delhi, July 29: Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth has conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in Northeast India. He was on a two-day visit to the military formations in the Eastern Theater on July 28 and 29. During this visit, he assessed the current security status, military preparedness, and efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The Army Chief evaluated the security situation in Manipur and reviewed the operational readiness of various military structures. He also gathered information on the progress of flood relief operations in different states of the Northeast. General Seth praised the efforts of soldiers engaged in assisting civil administration. On the first day of his visit, July 28, he reviewed the security situation in Manipur, assessing the operational readiness of the Assam Rifles (South), Assam Rifles (East), and the Red Shield Division.
He reviewed the coordinated efforts of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to maintain a safe and stable environment in the state. Additionally, he observed nation-building and community engagement programs conducted by various military structures and the Assam Rifles. During his visit, General Dheeraj Seth also interacted with soldiers deployed in forward areas.
He commended the professional capabilities, dedication, and commitment of the soldiers in challenging circumstances. He also visited Assam, where he assessed military preparedness and received updates on the rescue and relief operations initiated due to flooding in the region. The Army Chief participated in the 135th Indian Oil Durand Cup ceremony held at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal. This event marked the inauguration of the Imphal phase. The ceremony was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Y. K. Singh, and senior officials from the army and civil administration.
The Durand Cup, popularly known as the country’s cup, is considered an important platform for promoting sports talent and strengthening national unity. The Army Chief’s presence underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to connecting youth through sports, enhancing dialogue among communities, and strengthening the relationship between the people of Northeast India and Indian football.
On July 29, the Army Chief reviewed the security preparations of the Dao Division and Spearhead Division. He was briefed on the operational situation in the area, military readiness, and ongoing flood relief operations. He appreciated the support provided by military personnel to civil administration and urged them to continue this work with full commitment.
