Andhra Pradesh Government Revokes Suspension of Senior IPS Officers Vishal Gunny and Kanti Rana Tata

Amaravati, September 3: The Andhra Pradesh government has revoked the suspension of senior IPS officers Vishal Gunny (2010 batch) and Kanti Rana Tata (2004 batch). The General Administration Department (GAD) issued an order on Thursday, reinstating both officers with immediate effect.

Initially, the government suspended Gunny and Tata under the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. Their suspension was periodically reviewed and extended, with the latest suspension set to last until September 4.

The decision to revoke their suspension followed an investigation into a report submitted by the DGP. The government also considered an application from Kanti Rana Tata dated August 24. After reviewing all relevant aspects, the government decided to lift their suspension.

Consequently, orders were issued for the immediate reinstatement of Vishal Gunny and Kanti Rana Tata. However, the orders clarified that the revocation of their suspension would not affect any ongoing disciplinary proceedings or criminal cases against them.

In 2024, following the rise of the NDA coalition led by Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh, a complaint was lodged by Kadambari Jethwani. She alleged that the Andhra Pradesh police had unlawfully detained her. Following her complaint, several police officers faced charges. Based on Jethwani’s allegations, Ibrahimpatnam police registered FIR number 469 in October 2024.

Action against the police officers began in October 2024 based on Jethwani’s complaint, but a charge sheet is still pending. The government stated that it reviewed the DGP’s report and the responses submitted by Gunny and Tata on August 24 before deciding to revoke their suspension.

Nonetheless, the government made it clear that the revocation of their suspension would not impact any ongoing disciplinary actions or criminal cases against them.

The government instructed the DGP to provide copies of the orders to both officers and obtain their acknowledgment of receipt.

These orders were issued in the name of Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad. The government directed the police chief to ensure that both officers received the orders and that acknowledgment was collected.
