Ahmedabad, September 3: The Ahmedabad city police have filed a charge sheet in a rape case within 21 days, based on forensic, circumstantial, and technical evidence collected from the Anandnagar police station area.
The incident involves a 22-year-old interior design student who was allegedly sexually assaulted on August 8 at a residential society in Ahmedabad.
According to officials, the victim was living as a paying guest. She went to the terrace for a walk when the accused allegedly attacked and assaulted her. The suspect has been identified as Dharm Singh.
Police reported that Singh had been hired as a security guard just days before the incident. Investigators tracked him down using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, with multiple teams from Anandnagar police, local crime branch, and crime branch involved in the search.
He was arrested shortly after the incident. The police also examined CCTV footage from the residential complex, which reportedly showed Singh heading to the terrace from inside the building before the alleged attack. The woman was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
Following the investigation, questions arose regarding the practices of the security agency that employed Singh. The Anandnagar police filed a separate case against the agency’s owner after investigators alleged that the agency’s license had expired and it had failed to comply with mandatory requirements for the recruitment and deployment of security guards under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act.
The charge sheet was filed within 21 days of the case being registered. The police stated that the investigation was completed swiftly after examining forensic, circumstantial, and technical evidence.
In a statement, the police said, “The investigation was completed promptly based on forensic, circumstantial, and technical evidence, and the charge sheet has been filed in court.”
With the filing of the charge sheet, the police investigation concludes, and the evidence collected during the investigation will be presented in court for further action.
