Vadnagar, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Central Home Minister Amit Shah participated in events at Vadnagar Railway Station on Thursday, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday. During the occasion, he engaged in a cleanliness campaign and planted 76 trees alongside differently-abled children.
This initiative, part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan,’ aligns with the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign led by the Western Railway’s Ahmedabad division. Shah took part in cleaning activities, emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean railway premises.
Accompanying him were Mehsana MP Hari Patel, Ahmedabad division’s Divisional Railway Manager Ved Prakash, and numerous railway officials and employees who also took part in the campaign.
The nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ campaign commenced on September 17 and will continue until October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. In Ahmedabad, the campaign includes cleanliness and awareness programs at railway stations, offices, residential areas, and other public spaces.
During the campaign, passengers, railway staff, and the general public will be encouraged to embrace cleanliness. Under the ‘Swachh Pathshala – Youth for Cleanliness’ program, initiatives such as cleanliness pledges, solid waste management, and proper waste segregation awareness are being organized.
Additionally, the campaign will feature visits to railway wastewater treatment plants, bio-toilet facilities, and coach washing lines, along with street plays, art competitions, and activities promoting the reuse of materials.
According to railway officials, special cleanliness drives will occur on September 19 and 20 at identified litter-sensitive locations around railway stations, yards, colonies, and tracks. Post-cleaning, these spots will be beautified and developed into ‘Cleanliness Selfie Points.’ The campaign aims to boost participation from NGOs, social organizations, and local communities.
At Vadnagar station, Shah and the children planted 76 trees, symbolizing a commitment to environmental protection and social inclusion. This tree-planting event is a continuation of last year’s initiative, where 75 trees were planted at Vadnagar Station on Modi’s 75th birthday under the ‘One Tree in Mother’s Name’ campaign.
The Ahmedabad division reported that the trees planted last year have been regularly cared for and are now thriving, with flowers and fruits beginning to appear. This initiative aims to enhance green spaces in railway areas, promote environmental conservation, raise awareness among travelers and the public, and create cleaner, more eco-friendly railway environments.
