Jammu, May 29: As the Shri Amarnath Yatra is set to commence on July 3, Jammu SSP Joginder Singh visited the Bhagwati Nagar base camp on Friday. The purpose of this visit was to review the security and logistical arrangements being made for the smooth operation of the pilgrimage.
During the visit, the SSP conducted a thorough inspection of the security deployment and engaged in discussions with the officials and staff stationed at the base camp. A review meeting was attended by officials from the CRPF and civil administration as well.
Detailed discussions were held regarding the overall security strategy, crowd management, traffic control, surveillance mechanisms, emergency response preparations, and coordination among various agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of the pilgrims.
SSP Jammu emphasized the importance of timely completion of all arrangements and instructed officials to maintain a high level of vigilance and coordination throughout the pilgrimage period. Special attention was also given to ensuring proper facilities, smooth transit, and assistance for the devotees arriving at the base camp without any hassle.
Officials were directed to work closely with all relevant agencies to provide a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for the pilgrims embarking on this sacred journey.
The Amarnath Yatra, beginning on July 3, will conclude on August 28, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. Situated at an altitude of approximately 8,880 meters, the Amarnath cave features a naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam, whose shape changes with the lunar cycle. Devotees regard it as a symbol of Lord Shiva’s divine power.
Pilgrims can reach the Amarnath cave via the traditional long Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route. The Pahalgam route takes about four days to reach the cave, while those taking the Baltal route can return to the base camp on the same day after the darshan.
Helicopter services are also available for travelers from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps.
