
Jammu, July 18: A road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Saturday left six Amarnath pilgrims injured. Officials confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident.
Central Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh shared details on social media platform X, stating, “In Udhampur, we have just received reports of six individuals injured, including five Amarnath pilgrims, when their vehicle collided with a dumper truck near Jhakhni this morning. This vehicle was part of a convoy carrying over 3,600 pilgrims heading to Kashmir from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage.”
The minister added, “No lives were lost in this accident. All injured individuals are being provided with necessary assistance. My office is closely monitoring the situation.”
The accident occurred this morning, injuring six people, including the driver, when their vehicle struck a stationary dumper truck. The five injured passengers are from Uttar Pradesh, while the driver hails from Ganderbal district. All were transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Udhampur.
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, spoke with local authorities, directing them to ensure the best medical care for the pilgrims. Minister Jitendra Singh also confirmed that all possible help is being extended.
The Amarnath Yatra for this year commenced on July 3, 2026. Since then, over 350,000 pilgrims have visited the sacred cave temple. The 57-day pilgrimage will conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festivals of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
