New Delhi, July 18: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken by Delhi police for medical treatment on Saturday. He has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital. This incident has drawn a strong reaction from Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP).
Speaking to the crowd at the protest site, Dipke declared, “I am starting my hunger strike today. Our march is scheduled for July 20, and my fast will continue. They think that by taking Sonam Sir away, they can end the protest; the movement will not stop.”
In a conversation with reporters, Dipke stated, “Sonam Sir was dragged away, and the cowardly act of abusing and removing him will not end this movement. The protest will continue. We will remain here, and on the 20th, we will march to Parliament. The police have acted like goons.” He urged people, “Those who wish to come to Delhi, please do so. We will stay right here.”
Dipke further added, “Delhi police also beat me and prevented me from going to Jantar Mantar. I was assaulted, dragged on the road, and told, ‘Let’s see how you get to Jantar Mantar.’ Several MLAs and MPs have also been stopped at the gate and are not being allowed inside.”
Meanwhile, DCP Sachin Sharma from New Delhi stated, “As per the honorable High Court‘s order, and based on health conditions and medical advice, Sonam Wangchuk was taken to a proper government hospital for urgent medical treatment, and he is currently under medical supervision.”
The police have appealed to the public not to obstruct government operations and to cooperate with the authorities.
