Bihar Police Intensifies Crackdown on Criminals and Social Media Offenders

Patna, July 18: Bihar Police has ramped up its efforts against criminals across the state. A significant crackdown on absconding offenders is underway, with property seizures being executed as part of this initiative. From July 11 to July 20, a special property seizure campaign resulted in 2,125 actions taken.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order & Vulnerable Groups) Suhita Anupam shared this information during a press conference at the Sardar Patel Bhavan in the police headquarters. She emphasized that strict actions are being taken against individuals showcasing weapons on social media through photos and videos.

The police are monitoring social media 24/7 via a dedicated center and the Cyber Crime and Security Unit. Between May 1 and July 14, 102 FIRs were registered related to weapon displays on social media. During this period, 130 suspects were arrested, and 40 weapons were confiscated. The districts with the highest enforcement actions include Patna, Nawgachia, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, and Motihari.

Suhita Anupam also mentioned ongoing actions against those making religious or caste-based comments that disrupt social harmony or make derogatory remarks against individuals. A total of 514 cases related to objectionable posts and viral videos have been identified and forwarded for action. Of these, action has been completed in 243 cases, while processes for the remaining cases are ongoing.

The ADG announced a reduction in response time for the Dial-112 service to 10 minutes, which is expected to aid in crime control. The verification of youth character and issuance of certificates will now be conducted online, linking the CCATS with police stations and relevant websites.

In the fight against human trafficking, Operation Naya Savera-3.0 has led to 52 FIRs registered and 109 traffickers arrested from July 1 to 14. During this operation, 82 women and 75 men were rescued. The districts with the highest arrests include Patna (40), Saharsa (13), and Kishanganj (9). The top districts for victim rescues were Kishanganj (23), Sitamarhi (17), and Patna/Arwal/Muzaffarpur (jointly 14).

The ADG noted extensive actions taken in May and June against cases affecting law and order. This included 63 instances of communal violence, 462 attacks on police, 2 cases of mob violence, and 6 incidents of celebratory firing, resulting in the arrest of 533 suspects. A total of 51,189 witnesses were presented for evidence, with 49,191 providing testimony in court to expedite case resolutions and ensure swift justice for offenders.

Suhita Anupam highlighted heightened vigilance regarding terrorist activities along the India-Nepal border, with alerts issued in border areas and oversight from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

To combat drug trafficking, continuous operations are being conducted. In May and June alone, authorities seized 17 kg 883 grams of heroin, 26,135 kg of cannabis, and other narcotics. Inspections of supply chains, including medical stores, are also ongoing.

The ADG announced the launch of Operation Vidhi Palak Yuva on July 21, aimed at educating youth about legal matters, which will run until August 10. This campaign will cover trafficking, dowry harassment, the POCSO Act, women’s crimes, and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act of 1986. Additionally, police teams (Abhaya Brigade) will be established in educational institutions and key locations to enhance women’s safety.
