New Delhi, July 18: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken to the hospital by Delhi police on Saturday after being on a hunger strike for the past 20 days. Authorities reported that his deteriorating health necessitated immediate medical attention. This decision has sparked various reactions across social media.
Abhijit Dipke expressed his concerns on the platform ‘X’, stating, “Delhi police are being harsh at Jantar Mantar. They are beating people and forcibly taking Sonam Sir away.” In another post, Dipke claimed, “Delhi police have beaten me and detained me.”
A handle named ‘Cockroach Is Back’ shared a video message from Abhijit Dipke, highlighting the police’s aggressive actions. The message detailed how police violently charged at protesters at Jantar Mantar during the incident.
Geetanjali Je Angmo also took to ‘X’, saying, “I am at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where Sonam Wangchuk has been admitted. Nothing should be administered to him orally or intravenously without the consent of his family and doctors, who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days.”
In a conversation with reporters, DCP Sachin Sharma from New Delhi stated, “As per the honorable High Court‘s order and based on health conditions and medical advice, Sonam Wangchuk was taken to a proper government hospital for urgent medical treatment and is currently under medical supervision.”
The police have urged the public to avoid obstructing government operations and to cooperate with officials.
