Mumbai, July 18: The Ministry of Railways has officially renamed Kathua Railway Station. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, announced the change on the social media platform X.
In his post, Singh shared, “Good news for Kathua. The name of Kathua Railway Station has been changed to ‘Shaheed Captain Sunil Kumar Chaudhary Railway Station Kathua’ in response to public demand.”
The announcement to rename the station was made earlier this year on January 30. At that time, Minister Jitendra Singh had also confirmed that the station would bear the name of the martyr. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support.
Singh wrote on X, “The name of Kathua Railway Station has been changed to Shaheed Captain Sunil Kumar Chaudhary Railway Station. Thank you, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for promptly acting on the demand of the people of Kathua to honor the martyr Sunil Kumar Chaudhary.”
When the government announced the renaming, the parents of Martyr Sunil Chaudhary expressed their pride. Retired Colonel P.L. Chaudhary praised the decision, stating that naming public places after martyrs serves as an inspiration for future generations.
Colonel Chaudhary remarked, “The government has decided to honor my son’s sacrifice by renaming the station after him. Naming places like railway stations, schools, and playgrounds after martyrs instills a sense of patriotism in children from a young age.”
Captain Chaudhary’s mother, Satya Chaudhary, also expressed her happiness. She said, “I was overjoyed to hear that Kathua Railway Station has been named after my son. I thank both the central and state governments, as well as everyone who raised their voices for this cause. I am proud that my son’s name will be remembered for generations. Though he is no longer with us, his name will remain immortal.”
