New Delhi, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Iranian Chief Justice Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei emphasized the necessity of a fair international order during the BRICS Chief Justice Forum held in New Delhi on September 5. He urged member nations to strengthen the rule of international law and adopt a firm stance against aggression, violations of national sovereignty, and international crimes.
Speaking at the opening session, Ejei expressed gratitude to the Indian government and judiciary for hosting the event. He shared his thoughts through the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi.
“The world needs an equitable international system where all countries are treated equally and their sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected,” he stated. Ejei highlighted the significant role BRICS plays in shaping the emerging global order, advocating for a system where no power considers itself above the law. He called on BRICS members to unite in support of the law.
The Iranian judiciary chief condemned military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, labeling them as violations of international norms and illegal. He recounted a tragic incident on the first day of attacks, where 168 schoolchildren were among those killed in a school in Minab. He described assaults on hospitals, educational and cultural centers, residential areas, and other civilian infrastructure as reprehensible, citing them as clear examples of war crimes.
Ejei warned that without accountability for violations of international law, no country can consider itself safe from future threats. He posed a critical question: “Will we not be asked tomorrow which side we stood on at this turning point in history?”
He urged member countries to condemn violations of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling for concrete actions to prevent further alleged illegal aggressions. Ejei also appealed to BRICS nations to utilize the principle of universal jurisdiction to prosecute those responsible for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during conflicts involving Iran.
In concluding his address, Ejei stressed the urgent need for justice that is not selective, does not compromise the rule of law for political interests, and does not weigh the rights of a nation based on its power.
