Allegations Against TMC MLA Priya Paul for Concealing Husbands Assets in Election Affidavit

Kolkata, June 29: A police complaint has been filed against Trinamool Congress MLA Priya Paul in the Sankrail police station area of Howrah district, West Bengal. The complaint accuses her of concealing her husband’s assets in her election affidavit.

The complaint was lodged by local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Sanjit Jana. He alleges that since becoming an MLA for the first time in 2021 from the Sankrail assembly constituency, Paul has allegedly amassed significant wealth through illegal means and purchased substantial properties in the names of her husband, Amit Paul, and daughter.

The complaint also states that the affidavit submitted for the recently concluded 2026 West Bengal assembly elections did not mention these assets, which are registered under her husband and daughter’s names.

Priya Paul was re-elected from Sankrail, defeating BJP’s Barnali Dhali by over 16,000 votes.

Sanjit Jana claims that over the past five years, the MLA has utilized her political and administrative influence to acquire properties worth millions, despite her family having a modest economic background before her election. He noted that the family had little wealth previously, but their assets have rapidly increased in the last five years.

Jana stated, “The increase in the MLA and her family’s wealth over the past five years is significant, yet it was not disclosed in the election affidavit. This is the basis for my complaint to the police. They have assured a thorough investigation into the matter.”

As of now, there has been no response from the accused MLA or her family regarding the allegations. Additionally, no comments have been made by any faction of the Trinamool Congress, whether loyal to Mamata Banerjee or the faction led by expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee.
