Tehran, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced on Saturday that it targeted three oil tankers in the Hormuz Strait in retaliation for a U.S. military attack. The IRGC’s naval forces claimed that the tankers were navigating through “unauthorized” routes.
In a statement published on their official platform, Sepah News, the IRGC warned vessels in the Gulf and surrounding areas to avoid provocations by U.S. forces. They cautioned that any ship attempting to pass through unauthorized paths could be targeted.
Earlier that day, Iran’s state news agency IRIB reported that three Iranian oil tankers were attacked by U.S. military forces near Iran’s southern coast. Following the incident, Ibrahim Jolfaghari, a spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, warned the U.S. against continuing its attacks on Iranian vessels and maintaining a maritime blockade against the country.
Jolfaghari stated in a media release, “If acts of hostility against Iranian ships continue, along with the maritime blockade, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran may respond with even greater force against U.S. military vessels in the region.”
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated on Friday that American forces might soon target Iran’s “Pikaex Mountain,” a heavily fortified area near the Natanz uranium enrichment facility. However, he downplayed the ongoing conflict with Iran, referring to it as a “minor issue.”
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “We may attack Pikaex very soon.” He described the underground facility as a site where Iran allegedly moved some of its highly enriched uranium stockpile.
Trump emphasized that the situation with Iran should not be labeled as war. He characterized it as a “military conflict,” albeit one that is intermittent. However, he has previously referred to the situation as a “war” on multiple occasions, while sometimes avoiding the term.
On February 28, following attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, Tehran imposed restrictions on vessels passing through the Hormuz Strait. Iran barred ships linked to the U.S. or Israel from traversing the area, while U.S. forces enforced a maritime blockade targeting vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas.
