Greater Noida, August 13: Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Urban Development and Energy, AK Sharma, targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, accusing him of misleading the nation’s farmers and youth through mere political rhetoric.
Sharma sarcastically remarked that Gandhi would struggle to distinguish between sugarcane and corn plants, questioning how he could be expected to contribute to the development of farmers and youth. Sharma made these comments during a speech at the India Bio Energy and Tech Expo-2026, held at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. The event also featured Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Energy Minister Kailash Rajput, along with numerous representatives, subject experts, and entrepreneurs from across the country and abroad.
Continuing his critique, Sharma stated that Gandhi cannot even articulate university names in Hindi, nor can he provide comprehensive information about IITs and IIMs in the same language. He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh is reaching new heights of development.
Sharma highlighted that the international conference on CBG and bioenergy in Greater Noida exemplifies this progress. Entrepreneurs and experts are exploring ways to increase farmers’ incomes, convert waste into energy, and create new job opportunities in villages. He urged Gandhi to understand this evolving landscape of development instead of confusing the youth and farmers.
At the beginning of the event, Additional Chief Secretary of Energy, Ashish Goyal, read a message from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Sharma then pointed out the significant potential of the CBG industry to enrich farmers. He explained that waste can be transformed into wealth, thereby increasing farmers’ incomes and providing local employment.
Sharma noted that Prime Minister Modi has shown the country the path to green energy. He criticized previous governments for neglecting farmers, while Modi has initiated several crucial measures to enhance farmers’ incomes, promote soil health cards, and strengthen the agricultural sector. He assured entrepreneurs investing in bioenergy that the state government stands firmly with them.
Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi remarked that Uttar Pradesh is the largest grain-producing state in the country, with abundant agricultural waste available. This waste can be converted into energy through innovation. He assured entrepreneurs of full support, stating that collective efforts can meet the state’s energy needs through green energy.
Shahi emphasized the opportunity to transform agricultural waste into sources of income and energy, thereby economically empowering farmers. Energy Minister Kailash Rajput and Gosava Commission Chairman Shyam Bihari Gupta stressed the importance of promoting agriculture alongside livestock farming.
They highlighted the need to establish one lakh small biogas plants at the domestic level in the state. During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹1,000 crore was signed with KIS and Paras Group. Additionally, several research papers and agricultural literature were released.
The conference saw representatives, experts, and entrepreneurs from across the globe extensively discussing bioenergy, CBG, the utilization of agricultural waste, rural employment, and the prospects of green energy.
