Torrent Groups ₹43,000 Crore Investment to Boost Employment in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, August 13: Madhya Pradesh is rapidly advancing towards energy self-sufficiency. The Torrent Group is investing over ₹43,000 crore in the state, which will create direct and indirect job opportunities for more than 15,000 youths.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav met with Samir Mehta, Chairman of Torrent Group and Torrent Power Limited, in Ahmedabad to discuss investment and projects at a high level. The meeting was attended by Neeraj Mandloi, Additional Chief Secretary of Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion, Secretary John Kinsley, and MD of MPIDC Chandramouli Shukla.

Dr. Yadav stated that this investment by the Torrent Group will be a milestone in meeting the state’s growing energy needs and achieving self-reliance in the energy sector.

To strengthen the state’s long-term electricity supply, Torrent Power is establishing a 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project in Anuppur district. This project, costing approximately ₹22,000 crore, is expected to generate over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.

A Power Purchase Agreement was executed with Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited on January 27, 2026. Land acquisition has been completed, and work has been awarded to prestigious companies like L&T and Tata Projects. Following approval from the Ministry of Environment, pre-construction activities are progressing swiftly on-site.

To promote green energy, a 1,500 MW Patalkot pumped storage project is underway in Chhindwara, with an investment of ₹7,500 crore, creating around 4,000 jobs. Additionally, a 250 MW wind energy project is being developed in Ratlam and Ujjain, involving an investment of ₹2,000 crore and generating 500 jobs. The group’s 36 MW wind unit in Mandsaur is already operational.

Furthermore, the Torrent Group is working on another ultra-supercritical thermal project with a capacity of 800 MW. This project, with an investment of ₹11,000 crore, will provide jobs for 3,500 individuals.

According to the Central Electricity Authority, the state will require an additional 1,900 MW of thermal power by 2036-37. In light of this, the state government is initiating a transparent bidding process for the procurement of 2,800 MW of thermal power capacity on a DBFOO basis. The Chief Minister has invited Torrent Power to participate in this tender.

In addition to energy, the Torrent Group operates a USFDA-approved pharma unit in Pithampur, Dhar, with an investment of ₹300 crore, creating employment for over 400 people. Torrent Power, based in Ahmedabad, has a total installed capacity of 5.1 GW and is working towards developing 10 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
