Punjab Chief Minister Inaugurates New Girls School Building in Malerkotla

Chandigarh, August 13: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a five-story government school building for girls in Malerkotla on Wednesday, calling it a special gift for daughters on Independence Day.

The project was completed at a cost of ₹6.34 crores, saving ₹5.25 lakhs from the state treasury. The new facility includes modern amenities such as a library, smart classrooms, a common room, and restrooms.

This new building will provide quality education to girls from Malerkotla and surrounding villages. The state’s education model is yielding positive results; 882 students from government schools have passed NEET, and 361 have cleared JEE. Additionally, over 15,000 girls are benefiting from a special bus service to ensure distance does not hinder their education. To further enhance educational opportunities for children from underprivileged families, 118 ‘Schools of Eminence’ are being established.

CM Mann criticized previous governments for merely repainting school buildings under the guise of ‘smart schools.’ He emphasized that the current administration is developing an education system that delivers excellent results, positioning Punjab as a leader in education nationwide.

He also warned that the BJP would attempt to spread hatred in Punjab ahead of elections and urged citizens to refrain from engaging with provocative statements.

Discussing Malerkotla’s historical significance, CM Mann expressed, “I feel fortunate to be in the historic city of Malerkotla, a land of unity and love. The people of Punjab, especially the Sikh community, can never repay the debt owed to the Nawab of Malerkotla, who raised his voice against the martyrdom of the young Sahibzadas in Sirhind. The state government is committed to developing this historic city, and I take pride in dedicating this new school building to the people.”

Despite the intense heat, he thanked the attendees for their participation, stating, “The large crowd inspires the state government to serve with even more enthusiasm. Today is a joyous occasion as we dedicate this new school building to the community. This school will enhance facilities for our students and provide quality education, which is the main objective of the state government.”
