Strengthening Ties: China and Egypt Celebrate 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Beijing, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping completed a state visit to Egypt on September 1 and 2, 2026. During his trip, he met with Egyptian leaders to solidify agreements aimed at enhancing the bilateral relationship. Xi presented a five-point plan to foster the development of a community with a shared future between China and Egypt.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with China. This visit marks Xi’s return to Egypt after a decade, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The timing highlights the importance of advancing historical ties while looking towards a collaborative future.

Egypt was the first Arab and African nation to establish diplomatic relations with China. It was also the first Arab country to include the goal of building a community with a shared future in a joint statement on bilateral relations, and the first developing nation to establish strategic ties with China. Over the past 70 years, despite significant changes in international and regional dynamics, China-Egypt relations have consistently progressed in a positive direction, serving as a model of friendly coexistence and cooperative unity among developing countries.

Political trust is the foundation of China-Egypt relations, while economic and trade cooperation serves as a driving force. Mutual learning between civilizations is a critical link in their partnership. As major developing countries and key players in the Global South, both nations share a common goal of upholding international order, advocating for fairness and justice, and implementing multilateralism. Looking ahead, China and Egypt are committed to advancing the concept of a community with a shared future to inject positive energy into a turbulent and changing world.
